Three Land cruisers carried 21 staff and equipment 300km east of Addis Ababa to Shambu, Horro District, for a two day pilot field sampling. After booking out all the rooms at the local hotel, the field team was divided into three genetic and health team and a socio-economic team. With the recruitment of three district administrators from the neighbouring villages, the teams piloted the sampling and surveys at several household within the villages. From all reports, the farmers were happy to participate in the project with some farmers actively approaching the field teams to be included in the project. Ectoparasites collected from several birds during the pilot field sampling will be identified at the EIAR, Debre Zeit laboratory.
